Austrian premiere of “Queer Opera”
Kammeroper Salzburg presents “Queer Opera” with two moving mono operas by Iain Bell as part of the Salzburg Pride Festival. The Austrian premiere of “Queer Opera”.
“The Man with Night Sweats” tells the story of a man dying of AIDS, while his only friend describes the stages of the disease – from night sweats to death.
“Comfort Starving” sheds light on the life of a boy who is homophobically bullied at school and is driven to refuse to eat by a remark made by a classmate. This opera shows the effects of bullying and the desperate search for control and comfort.
The British composer Iain Bell, known for his modern and emotionally accessible works, brings two very moving stories to the stage. In the production directed by Konstantin Paul (director), Michael Hofer-Lenz (stage & costumes) and Gereon Kleiner (piano), the short operas will be performed for the first time in Austria. Two touching stories about loss, love and the search for identity. Iain Bell’s compositions have already been performed at London’s Wigmore Hall and Carnegie Hall in New York City. And now in Salzburg as part of the Salzburg 2024 Pride Festival.
