The musical “Cabaret” was based on the book “Goodbye to Berlin” by Christopher Isherwood at the end of the 1920s, on the eve of the Third Reich.

“Willkommen, bienvenue, welcome – im Cabaret” We are in the middle of Berlin at the end of the 1920s, becoming part of the amusement-addicted metropolis dancing on a volcano on the eve of the Third Reich. Attracted by the sizzling atmosphere of the big city, the American writer Clifford Bradshaw travels to Berlin. There he makes the acquaintance of the frivolous society of the Kit-Kat Club.

The alternation of large public scenes and small private situations gives Cabaret its breath. The music inspired by ragtime and early jazz as well as the inserted revue-like numbers in the Kit-Kat-Club show the flair of the 1920s. The music was written by John Kander, the lyrics by Fred Ebb, the book by Joe Masteroff, based among other things on the autobiographical novel “Farewell, Berlin” (1939) by Christopher Isherwood.
