The title of the exhibition refers to the love song “My One And Only Love” from 1963, in which John Coltrane & Johnny Hartman intonate the following lyrics:

You fill my eager heart with such desire
Every kiss you give sets my soul on fire
I give myself in sweet surrender
My one and only love

Passion and devotion define love as much as art. Visitors are invited to approach the works of art with an open heart, all of which deal with love in its various forms and expressions. Even the ancient Greeks knew 8 different kinds of love – from passionate and romantic affection (Eros) to obsessive devotion (Mania). While Anouk Lamm Anouk‘s pictures from the series “Lesbian Jazz” depict lesbian love play, Joana Vasconcelos‘ goddesses covered with crocheted doilies from her installation “Ilha dos Amores” flirt with the voyeuristic viewer. Madeleine Berkhemer has taken inspiration from “L’Ecole des Caresses” – a feminist cult book from the 1920s – and created collages, drawings or installations influenced by her own sexuality and eroticism. The photos by Heather Bennett and Tracey Moffat arouse desire and Iv Toshain’s neon installation “Love is the only superstar” praises love as a superpower that you can only understand if you have really loved before.

What remains? The love of art – the art of love.
