Nelly and Nadine
The Obersalzberg documentary presents the queer film evening at the Pride Festival: Love against all odds in the Second World War
The Belgian opera singer Nelly Mousset-Vos and the Chinese resistance fighter Nadine Hwang meet on Christmas Eve 1944 in Ravensbrück concentration camp, where they are both prisoners. From that moment on, the two women spent as much time together as possible. Shortly before the end of the war, they were separated for a few months, found each other again, moved to Venezuela together to be able to live their love freely there, and later to Brussels.
For many years, Nelly and Nadine’s remarkable love story was kept secret, even from close family members. Nelly’s granddaughter Sylvie has opened up the couple’s private archives. Magnus Gertten’s touching documentary uses Nelly’s diary and photos, love letters and film reels to tell a remarkable story about the horror of war, well-kept family secrets and love against all odds.
