The Festival for New Circus in Salzburg
Every year since 2001, the Winter Festival has celebrated the unique art form of contemporary circus around Christmas time. For several weeks, Salzburg’s Volksgarten is transformed into a magical setting for the highest circus art and invites internationally renowned, hand-picked companies to its tents. Visitors are immersed in a colourful world full of captivating acrobatics, poetry and bizarre humour.
Over 20 years ago, while cycling through the snow-covered Volksgarten, Winterfest founder Georg Daxner had the vision of revitalising this place of conviviality and encounters with the Winterfest. The Winterfest continues to realise this vision to this day.
