Love is in the Air – with aerial acrobatics

Love is in the Air is the motto of this year’s Salzburg Pride. Air acrobat Malin Brandl, 24 years old and a native of Salzburg, will also be in the air.

Malin was active in youth work in the Erasmus programme in Mallorca in 2016. Erasmus+ is a European Union (EU) funding programme for learning and cooperation in Europe in the fields of education, youth and sport. On her many trips to the Balearic island, she passed by the tent of a Spanish circus school and just popped in. This was the spark that ignited her passion for circus acrobatics.

She was lucky and was accepted into the school. Since then she has been working on perfecting her art on silk (scarves) and trapeze. This includes acrobatics, dance, theatre and acting. And of course training for the most perfect body tension possible, as with all ballet dancers.

From Salzburg to Portugal

Today she is at INAC (Instituto Nacional de Artes do Circo) from October to July. INAC is an international centre for circus arts and is based in the north of Portugal. In August and September, Malin is usually in her hometown of Salzburg at the Circus Trainings Centrum (CTC) Salzburg. The CTC is a cooperation partner of the annual Winterfest, the largest festival for contemporary circus arts in the German-speaking world. The next one will take place from 9 December 2021 to 8 January 2022 in Salzburg’s Volksgarten. At the CTC, Malin trains, is a trainer in youth work and offers workshops.

Before that, however, Malin will give a sample of her art at the Salzburg Pride (3 to 5 September) at the closing rally after the parade. Love is in the Air – with aerial acrobatics: She will float through the air on a trapeze and be an attractive highlight of the CSD Saturday. In this way, she wants to bring the acceptance of deviant forms of heteronormative gender from the world of the circus to the streets of Salzburg. Because in dance and circus, people are already further ahead in this respect.
