This will be the Pride Festival Salzburg 2024
In 2022, CSD Salzburg became the Salzburg Pride Festival. Since then, Salzburg’s queer community has been celebrating Pride for a week with numerous events.
“Be visible Schatzi“ is the motto of the Salzburg Pride Festival for the third year in a row – and Schatzi is more visible in Salzburg than ever before. Initiatives and activities with a queer connection can be found across all possible groups in Salzburg’s urban society. This is also reflected in the programme for Pridefestival Salzburg 2024.
Strong support in the city of Salzburg
On Friday 30 August, Dexpleen will open the Pridefestival Salzburg 2024 in the Volksgarten with emotional indie pop/rock mixed with electro pop. From the Volksgarten, it’s off to Lehen or the Andräviertel. Queer karaoke is the name of the game at Narrencastl. The trendy bars Mexxx and Dark Eagle also ring in the first round of parties at Pridefestival Salzburg 2024.
The queer picnic starts on Saturday 31 August in Hans Donnenberg Park. In Szene Salzburg there will be a drag king workshop, which will give insights into the world of drag kings. On 31 August, the Salzburg Summer Academy ends with the finissage of an exhibition of queer archives from all over the world and the Confessing Waekness exhibition with works by Philip Gufler in the Traklhaus. On 31 August, international participants of the Summer Academy and visitors of the Pridefestival Salzburg 2024 will meet for an inspiring evening in the Zwergelgarten city gallery in Mirabellpark.
On Sunday 1 September, there will also be a search for queer traces at 3 pm at the Museum der Moderne Salzburg. From 4 pm, it’s Sexy Sunday Afternoon with Wolfgang at Dark Eagle, the only bar in Salzburg with separate playrooms. In the evening, you can also go for a sundowner at Hugo’s, the rooftop bar of the arte Hotel, and enjoy Salzburg from the very top in the Queer Lounge.
The Queer Pub Quiz on Monday 2.09. in the Academy Bar is almost a classic. After the experiences of the last two years, this is sure to be another good-humoured evening.
As usual, the Pride Night Kitchen Club in Olina’s kitchen studio on Tuesday 3.09. is educational, delicious and very entertaining. The workshop “Fake Images“ starts at 3 pm. A search for clues using historical images of the Obersalzberg. This workshop is presented by Dokumentation Obersalzburg in cooperation with HOSI Salzburg, as is the film “Nelly&Nadine“ at 7 pm. A lesbian love story, created in the Ravensbrück concentration camp. Especially today, it seems more necessary than ever to remember these times. And also on Tuesday evening, Gigi LaPajette from Salzburg and Grazia Patricia from Vienna invite you to a fun evening in the rooftop bar of the arte Hotel.
On Wednesday 4 September, a workshop on right-wing extremism will be held in the morning. Birgit Leichenring from the Chemsex Network Vienna will also be travelling to the event on Wednesday to bring interested parties up to date on STIs (sexually transmitted diseases). Breake the Binary is the title of a workshop with members of the Salzburg State Theatre ballet ensemble. And there will be an ecumenical queer church service in the Kollegienkirche.
On Thursday 5 September, the Magic Garage will be doing the honours with its Pride Festival edition at the Academy Bar. At the Trans*Eltern-Info there will be tips for relatives of trans young people. And at 7 pm, the Austrian premiere of a queer opera by British composer Iain Bell will begin in the Kollegienkirche. A co-production with the Salzburg Kammerspiele.
Salzburg Pride 2024
CSD (Christopher Street Day) goes back to the Stonewall Riots in in Christopher Street in New York in 1969, which are regarded as the beginning of the modern gay and lesbian movement. The actual CSD weekend consists of the Pride Parade and Pride Night.
It starts on Friday evening 6 September with Gigi’s Drag Bingo in the HOSI Bar. Last year’s experience in a new HOSI location? Great party! On the same evening, Florian Niederseer hosts the poetry slam, this time at the Toihaus theatre in the Andräviertel. The Pride Pre-Fetish Party starts at the Dark Eagle, which has already become a tradition. And of course the CSD weekend will also be heralded in at Mexxx
The two-hour queer city tour starts on Saturday 7.09., where you can learn a lot about Salzburg and its queer references. Meanwhile, Martin Eder from the vegetarian restaurant Furo invites you to a pre-parade barbeque in Lasserstraße. And Gigi LaPajette will be having brunch with her divas at the arte Hotel on the 14th floor from 12 noon with a fantastic view over Salzburg.
From 4 pm, the Salzburg Pride parade will form up in front of Salzburg Central Station. At around 5 pm, the procession starts for Nonntal University. There, everything then gradually merges into the Pride Night at ARGE Kultur. With two dance floors again, of course. Official start 9 pm. At 9 pm, the LMC Salzburg is also organising a meet & greet in the basement of the ARGE for all leather and fetish fans. From 10 pm, Ambjörn Söderberg will be playing at the fetish clubbing until the early hours.
On Sunday 8.09., we’ll be brunching again at Café am Kai – with the usual good breakfast and great views right on the Salzach. And Schatzi will probably be cleaning up again. A week full of queer visibility in the beautiful city on the Salzach – that will be Pridefestival Salzburg 2024. Peter Goebel
This article will be updated and supplemented on an ongoing basis. All fixed dates can be found in the calendar of events or on the website of the Salzburg Pride Festival. Frida's world
