Queer Film Evening: Homosexuality in the Military
On 3 November, DAS Kino at Giselakai will show the new film “Eismayer” as part of the Queer Film Evening in cooperation with HOSI Salzburg. An exciting topic: homosexuality in the military. The film is the winner of the Film Critics’ Award at the Vienna International Film Festival 2022.
“Vice Lieutenant Charles Eismayer, the toughest instructor in the Austrian army, guards a secret carefully hidden from the public: he is gay. When he falls in love with a recruit, his life is thrown into turmoil. For a man like Eismayer, the traditional role model of a soldier is not compatible with a homosexual relationship.
The true story of the coming out of the notorious soldier Eismayer is surrounded by many legends, not only in the Austrian army. Director David Wagner dares to tackle this delicate subject in his debut film and thus boldly breaks up the classic images of masculinity.”

There will be an introduction to the topic at 7.30 pm, followed by the opportunity for a film discussion.
