Revival of Lili – The Danish Girl. A ballet on the question of gender identity
It begins as a game in artistic circles: Einar Wegener sits for a female portrait for his wife. Then they introduce the model, whom they call Lili, into their circle of friends. But the longer Einar leads a double life, the stronger he feels that Lili embodies his true nature. One person’s search for a way to finally feel at home in his own body inspired choreographer Reginaldo Oliveira to create this ballet. Using the records of the historical Lili Elbe, he explored what it is like to feel trapped in the wrong body and how a liberation could succeed.
