Wolfgang Amadeus Mozart in concerts, opera, theatre and films. The first festival of the year in Salzburg on Mozart’s birthday on 27 January.

The Mozart Week, the world’s most important Mozart festival, celebrates the eternal genius in all his dazzling facets every year around his birthday in January. Since 2019, star tenor Rolando Villazón has been responsible for the programming; Mozart’s oeuvre takes centre stage, but is closely interwoven with works by other composers.

Antonio Salieri enters the scene in 2024. A great composer who had the misfortune to be a contemporary of three musical geniuses: Beethoven, Haydn and Mozart. He was a teacher of the first, conducted – shortly before his death – the last homage to the second, and as far as the third, Mozart, was concerned, a veritable legend developed. Exciting works were born out of this myth; some of them can be heard at Mozart Week 2024.

Outstanding orchestras, top-class soloists, conductors, actors and performers will fill this programme with life, including Anne-Sophie Mutter, Igor Levit and the Vienna Philharmonic Orchestra. In addition to exquisite concerts, “La Clemenza di Tito” and Peter Shaffer’s legendary theatre play “Amadeus” can also be experienced. Programme and tickets are available at www.mozartwoche.at.
