The Salzburg Festival is the world’s most important festival for opera, music and theatre. Over 44 days, there are numerous performances in the fields of opera, theatre and concerts.

Every year in August, the world of culture comes together in Salzburg. The Salzburg Festival offers 172 performances over 44 days at 15 venues in the fields of opera, theatre and concerts.

The opera productions of summer 2024 put the revolting man at the centre. Offenbach’s “Les Contes d’Hoffmann”, Prokofiev’s “The Gambler”, Weinberg’s “The Idiot”, Mozart’s “Don Giovanni” and “La Clemenza di Tito” show revolutionaries of different characters.

The new theatre director Marina Davydova focuses on three main themes, relating people to transcendence, their history and their bodies. She focuses on texts by Zweig, Thomas Mann and Aeschylus, Sophocles and Euripides, among others, and also brings dance into the theatre. In the new production of Hugo von Hofmannsthal’s “Jedermann”, the founding play of the Salzburg Festival, particular attention is focussed on Philipp Hochmair as Jedermann and Deleila Piasko as Buhlschaft. A reading with Michael Maertens from the prison letters of Alexey Navalny should be interesting and topical.

The Vienna Philharmonic Orchestra will be performing five concert programmes led by five conductors to mark Arnold Schönberg’s 150th birthday. In the Orchestra as Guest series, the Utopia Orchestra, the Monteverdi Choir, the English Baroque Soloists, the Collegium Vocale 1704, the West-Eastern Divan Orchestra, the Berliner Philharmoniker, the Gustav Mahler Youth Orchestra and the ORF Vienna Radio Symphony Orchestra will be among those coming to Salzburg. Other programme items in summer 2024 include the “Ouverture Spirituelle”, Mozart matinees, song recitals and chamber and church concerts.
